Content Dissemination and Bibliographic Policies

Content Dissemination and Bibliographic Policies

The Latin American Journal of Educational Technology (RELATEC) promotes maximum dissemination and accessibility of its scientific content through a set of policies and tools designed to ensure visibility, interoperability, and long-term preservation.

Citation standards: Each article includes a clearly visible “How to cite this article” section, following the APA 7th edition style, with the full reference to ensure proper academic citation. Other citation formats are supported through export tools.

Bibliographic export: RELATEC allows automatic export of citations and references to reference management tools such as Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote, and RefWorks, in formats including BibTeX, RIS, and RefMan.

Social media dissemination: RELATEC actively promotes the dissemination of its publications via academic and general social networks through sharing buttons and coordinated digital communication strategies.

Interoperability: The journal implements OAI-PMH and RSS protocols, allowing its content to be harvested by institutional repositories, databases, and national or international aggregators.

Digital preservation: RELATEC maintains a public content preservation policy, supported by regular backups, institutional storage, and digital preservation services such as LOCKSS, ensuring permanent access to all published content.

Metadata Transfer Protocol

RELATEC – Latin American Journal of Educational Technology ensures the transfer and harvesting of its publication metadata through open protocols and international standards, in order to facilitate dissemination in open access repositories and scientific content aggregators.

Specifically, RELATEC Provides an OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative - Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) interoperability protocol, accessible at the following URL:
https://relatec.unex.es/index.php/relatec/oai

Exposes metadata in formats compatible with international interoperability standards used by systems such as: OpenAIRE, Google Scholar, DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals). Includes in its metadata essential elements such as: title, abstract, keywords, authorship, institutional affiliation, references, persistent identifiers (DOI), and usage licenses (Creative Commons), in compliance with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).

This protocol ensures that RELATEC’s contents are accessible, visible, and reusable across major open science dissemination platforms.

Content Preservation and Archiving Policy

RELATEC – Latin American Journal of Educational Technology ensures the long-term preservation of all published content through a combination of technical strategies and institutional support. The adopted measures include:

- Storage on institutional servers of the University of Extremadura, with periodic backup policies.
- Inclusion of content in institutional repositories and open-access scientific databases (DOAJ).
- Use of the Open Journal Systems (OJS) editorial platform, which enables structured export of articles and metadata.
- Implementation of interoperable standards (OAI-PMH, DOI, Creative Commons licenses) to ensure preservation and reuse across systems.

These measures aim to guarantee permanent and unaltered access to the journal’s scientific content, in line with open science principles and editorial responsibility.
