The paper discusses the issues relevant for the construction of self-access materials. The discussion focuses on three major issues: reflexive study, material accessibility, and strategic knowledge about reading and language learning through reading. Examples from a digital material designed for the teaching of academic reading illustrate some of the issues raised and make an alert for problems that need to be taken into consideration.
